FAQ
FAQ / Q&A
What is an automatic mahjong table?
An automatic mahjong table automates basic functions such as shuffling tiles and building walls.
High-end models also display scores and deal tiles automatically.
The main benefit is that it allows you to spend more time playing rather than preparing, making your mahjong experience more efficient and enjoyable.
Main Features:
- Superior sound insulation (Quiet design)
- High-speed shuffling with excellent randomization
- Accurate and rapid score display
- Sophisticated design fitting for home interiors
What is the difference between Commercial and Home models?
While the performance gap has narrowed in recent years, the design philosophy differs.
Commercial Models (e.g., AMOS REXX III):
Designed for mahjong parlors, prioritizing durability and game speed. Features include “Automatic Tile Distribution” and “Automatic Dora Flip.” They are more expensive and require regular maintenance (every 3-6 months).
Home Models (e.g., Slim Series):
Designed for home use, prioritizing “Quietness” and “Cost Performance.” They are lighter, consume less power, and require less maintenance (once a year).
Is it worth the cost? (Cost Performance)HOT
Even if you only play occasionally, owning a table has great benefits when compared to the total game fees paid at mahjong parlors.
- Playing at a parlor costs about 300-500 JPY per person/hour.
- For 4 people playing 5 hours, one day costs about 6,000-10,000 JPY.
Repeating this just a few times a month adds up quickly. Considering that our tables can last over 10 years, purchasing one for your home is often a financially smarter choice.
Why choose Alban?
Pioneer of Automatic Mahjong Tables
Since 1990, we have sold over 100,000 units. Our strength lies in our ability to identify and solve technical issues with know-how that even manufacturers may not have.
Relationship with Taiyo Giken (AMOS)
Alban is a primary distributor and long-term partner of Taiyo Giken, the manufacturer of the famous AMOS series.
Innovation (Slim Series)
We develop and sell our own “Slim” series, designed specifically for home users based on customer feedback.
Difference between “Slim” and “AMOS” series?
“Slim” Series (Specialized for Home Use):
Developed by Alban. Concepts are “Thin,” “Light,” “Quiet,” and “Eco-friendly.”
Its unique feature is the folding mechanism with tiles stored inside. You can fold it with a single lever action.
“AMOS” Series (Commercial / High-End):
Manufactured by Taiyo Giken. Known for the “AMOS REXX III” used in professional leagues. Features robust shuffling and automatic tile distribution.
Which table is used in the M-League?
The M-League uses the “AMOS REXX III”.
Main features of AMOS REXX III?
- Tile Alignment: Tiles are dispensed upright and aligned.
- ShipaiLess NEO: 3D shuffling mechanism to ensure perfect randomization.
- Pocket Function: Instant scoring stick storage system.
- Antibacterial Tiles: For hygiene.
- USB Ports: For charging devices at each seat.
Is there a table with “Automatic Tile Distribution”?
Yes, the “AMOS REXX III” features automatic tile distribution.
Additionally, the “Slim Voice” series (28mm type only) has a beta feature (hidden mode) for automatic distribution in 4-player games.
LCD vs 7-Segment LED Display?HOT
The “Slim Score” series uses a Monochrome LCD Display instead of the traditional 7-segment LED.
This ensures high visibility even in bright daylight and allows for displaying detailed information (such as point differences and rank). It also has a backlight for playing in dark environments.
What is the RFID Scoring System (Contactless)?HOT
The latest “Radio Wave Measurement Method (RFID)” solves connection issues caused by dirt or contact failure.
It accurately counts points even if the stick box is open or if different types of sticks are mixed. It is virtually maintenance-free and highly reliable.
What is the “Pocket” system?
The “Pocket” is an instant scoring stick storage system. You simply drop the sticks into the slot, and they are automatically sorted into the box.
This speeds up the game significantly. Alban holds the patent for this technology.
Is the “Box-under” point stick (Minus stick) necessary?
Yes, having “Minus point sticks” (Box-under sticks) makes calculation easier when a player’s score goes below zero. This is becoming a standard due to the popularity of professional league rules.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex), PayPal, and Bank Transfers.
Installment payments may be available depending on your credit card company.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we offer international shipping.
Shipping costs and delivery times vary by country. Please note that for overseas use, you may need a transformer (voltage converter), and the warranty may be limited.
How can I buy at a discount?
Showroom Pick-up: You can get a discount (approx. 11,000 JPY off + gifts) if you pick up the table directly at our Tokyo showroom.
Outlet / Used: We sell refurbished or outlet items on our official website. Please check for availability.
Warning: Resellers on Amazon/Rakuten
The only authorized online seller for the “Slim” series is “Alban Online Store”.
Please be careful of unauthorized resellers or potential scams on Amazon offering lower prices.
Is assembly easy?
Yes. The “Slim” series is designed to be assembled in about 15 minutes.
No complex wiring is required. You basically just need to attach the legs to the main unit with screws. We recommend 2 adults for assembly.
How much space do I need?
For 4 players to sit comfortably, you need a circular space with a diameter of at least 200cm (2 meters).
Please consider space for chairs and side tables as well.
Is the table noisy?
The operating sound of our home models is about 60dB (similar to daily conversation).
Usually, the voices of players laughing and talking are louder than the machine.
Can I use it on a Kotatsu (Heated Table)?
Yes, the “Slim” series can be placed directly on a Kotatsu table top because its bottom surface is flat.
(Note: Other commercial tables usually have protruding parts on the bottom and cannot be placed on flat surfaces.)
Can I store the table upright?
Generally, you cannot store the table by leaning it against a wall as it may damage the frame.
However, the Slim series with “Folding Legs” has casters and is designed to be stored vertically safely.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Yes, many of our models are designed to accommodate wheelchair users.
We consider table height and leg clearance for accessibility.
About Voltage (Use outside Japan)
Standard models are designed for 100V (50-60Hz) (Japan standard).
When used overseas, a transformer is usually required. Some models have an international version (100-240V), so please contact us.
Warranty and Support
Warranty: 1 year free warranty (Japan domestic use only).
Support: Most issues can be resolved via phone or video call support. If repair is needed, we offer on-site repair (Tokyo area) or send-back repair services.
How long is the lifespan?
With proper maintenance, automatic mahjong tables can last over 10 years.
Many customers use them for 15-20 years.
How do I clean the table?
Table: Wipe with a tightly wrung damp cloth (using mild detergent), then dry wipe.
Mat: Use a lint roller to remove dust.
Tiles: Wipe with a damp cloth (warm water only), then dry wipe. Cleaning the tiles keeps them smooth.
Can I buy replacement parts (Tiles/Sticks)?
Yes, we sell consumables such as tiles, scoring sticks, and mats separately.
If you lose a tile or stick, you can purchase replacements.
I use a pacemaker. Can I use the table?
If you use a pacemaker, please refrain from using automatic mahjong tables.
The tables use strong magnets and motors that may interfere with medical devices. Please consult your doctor.
